Adi vazhai Thandu _M

Banana stem or vazhai thandu is very healthy and rich in fiber content. There are many benefits from consuming banana stem.  It cools the body and is also very good for weight loss and lowers blood pressure. So it is really good to include it at least once or twice a week in our diet. The Stem juice mixed with butter milk and a pinch of salt is a delicious, healthy drink . It's very good as a deterrent in preventing  the formation of kidney stones.

The Bottom Banana Stem also called the Adi_Thandu in tamil is very dense and rich in fibre content. It is a bit rare to get this.

Use only stainless steel  knife . Do not use high carbon knife as it will react with the thandu , which can be seen in the image.

Cut the banana stem into small pieces from slices as depicted in my earlier posts. Soak the pieces in butter milk with curd.

Soak moong dahl in water for 20 minutes and keep all other ingredients handy as shown. The ingredients are to be dry.

The addition of turmeric and grated coconut goes well with the taste. The coconut grating to be added in the end.

Cook vazhai thandu in the normal methodology. You can add chopped coriander leaves for taste and look.

The raita is prepared with lots of Curd and the taste is to be enjoyed. A few Mint Leaves for taste and look.

The decanted butter milk- curd extract is extremely good for health when taken with a pinch of salt.

Water Melon Slicing _ M

Water Melon Slicing

First step is to select a good water melon, as lot of efforts are spent on cutting.

Always use a good quality  stainless steel knives for cutting. Keep your hand study & firm while cutting.

Cut uniform slices around 20 mm / ¾ Inches. This is a test for your skill.  Be patient and take your time.

Organise each slice over a dining plate and make 6 sectors scrolling with the knife.

Remove each slice and de-seed using tooth picks or the single toothed stainless steel knife and place it back in the same place.

The ends are small and so cut thinner slices. Use some of the cookie cutters and make a few shapes without wasting much.

Cut out the small left out pieces with the toothed knife and de-seed the cut pieces, using tooth picks. Again Key is patience.

Make cuts as you feel into small pieces and retaining the outer shape.

Do not remove any of the pieces

The moment to relax and enjoy your product. Do not tell anything to the guests. Let them speak out.

Water Melon Slicing

Water Melon
Melons are a mystery, as it is difficult to know how ripe the interior is, by inspecting the outside. Look for a firm, symmetrical watermelon free from bruises, cuts or dents. Lift it up. The watermelon should be heavy for its size. Watermelon is 92% water. Turn it over. The underside of the watermelon should have a creamy yellow spot showing where it sat on the ground and ripened in the sun. The weight of the Water Melon which I have bought is around 4.5 kg. Never be in a hurry to pick up the fruit, when there is a crowd.
